This week, our Reception and Year 1 children from St Mary’s Catholic Primary School, Newton Aycliffe, enjoyed an exciting and memorable trip to the Bus Museum as part of their transport topic. The visit brought their classroom learning to life in the most hands‑on and engaging way!

From the moment they stepped inside, the children were captivated by the variety of buses on display. They explored different designs, compared old and new vehicles, and eagerly climbed aboard to see what made each one special. One of the highlights of the day was the chance to sit in the driver’s seat — with many proudly “driving” the buses and imagining themselves on real journeys!

The experience sparked curiosity, conversation, and lots of smiles. It was wonderful to see our youngest pupils asking questions, sharing discoveries with their friends, and learning through play and exploration. Their excitement was infectious, and the museum provided the perfect setting to deepen their understanding of how transport has changed over time.

Back in the classroom, the children have already begun using what they learned to enrich their topic work, from storytelling and role‑play to creative activities inspired by their favourite buses.

It was a fantastic day filled with learning, laughter, and memories we know the children will treasure.
